How verification works

Confirms we can reach you. Automatic when you confirm your address at signup. It proves the least, and it is the floor for having an account at all.

Required before you can start a conversation. Replying is always free and never requires it. A gate on replies would strangle the thing that makes a marketplace work.

One number, one account. We store a one-way hash of the number, never the number itself, so we can enforce that without holding your phone number. It is also how a ban actually sticks: a new account with the same number cannot get the badge back.

A photo ID and a selfie, checked by our identity provider. We never see or store the document, only the pass or fail. It is optional, and it is the badge that gets the most replies.

Available now, once your phone is verified. An ID check costs us money whether it passes or not, which is why we ask for the cheaper rung first.

For listers: a lease or a utility bill matching the address, reviewed by a person. It is the strongest signal that a room is real, and it is what a fake listing cannot fake.

Available now for anyone with a listing. We delete the document the moment a moderator has decided; what survives is a line in our audit log saying a person checked.

Verification proves an identity or a document. It is not a character reference and not a guarantee about a property. Still go and see the room, still meet the people, and still never send money before a viewing.
